Kambo Disclaimer

What to Expect:

  • Purging: A natural detox process that may include vomiting, sweating, bowel movements, or tears.

  • Physical & Emotional Responses: Facial swelling, temporary symptom flare-ups, or fainting may occur. Emotional releases can arise during or after treatment and may continue for days to weeks as part of the healing process.

  • Integration: The healing process may continue for up to a week or longer, and rest and self-care are recommended.

  • Important: The small burns (gates) should not be touched or have anything applied to them during the healing process.

Ceremony Overview:

  • Duration: Approximately 2-3 hours

  • Structure:

    • Up to 1 hour for preparation and intention-setting

    • 20-45 minutes for receiving and processing the medicine

    • Up to 1 hour for rest and integration

  • Administration: A test point is applied to determine dosage, followed by the full treatment via small burns on the skin (gates). A personal bucket is provided for purging.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines:

  • Fasting: No food for 8 hours prior.

  • Hydration: Limited to one or two glasses (500ml) before arrival; 3 litres of water should be brought to the session.

  • Diet: A substantial meal should be eaten the day before. If the treatment is in the evening, breakfast is essential.

  • Avoidance: Alcohol, recreational drugs, saunas, colonics, enemas, sweat lodges, and fasting (juice, dry, or water) should be avoided for 48 hours prior.

  • Clothing: Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended, along with a blanket and pillow.

Contraindications for Kambo:


Kambo is not suitable for individuals with any of the following conditions:

  • Aneurysms

  • Active infections

  • Hemorrhages

  • Pancreatic issues

  • Alcohol dependence

  • Addison’s Disease

  • Brain injuries

  • Blood clots

  • Recent chemotherapy (within 6 weeks)

  • Drug dependency (opioids, benzodiazepines)

  • Gastric sleeve or band surgery

  • Heart conditions (any)

  • Organ transplants

  • Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, personality disorders

  • Significant psychiatric history (requires assessment)

  • Medicated low blood pressure

  • Recent invasive surgery (minimum 8 weeks post-op)

  • Stroke

  • Pregnancy

  • Breastfeeding (under 6 months)

  • Within 8 weeks of giving birth

  • Under 18 years of age

  • Severe asthma (an inhaler must be brought)

  • Diabetes (insulin, testing strips, and food must be brought)

  • Recent Bufo use (within 8 weeks)

  • COVID vaccination (less than 6 weeks post-vaccine)

Medication Guidelines:

  • Antipsychotics, Antiepileptics, Antidiuretics, Diuretics: Kambo is not suitable without assessment.

  • Antibiotics: Treatment should only be received after completing the course.

  • Benzodiazepines (daily use): A full withdrawal for a minimum of 4 weeks under medical supervision is necessary.

  • Alcohol dependency: A minimum of 14 days of abstinence is required.

  • Opioids (daily use): Must be discontinued for at least 2 weeks.

  • Weight-loss drugs (e.g., Ozempic): Must be stopped for 2 weeks prior.

  • Antidepressants: Usually safe, but guidance is required.

  • Alcohol or recreational drugs: Should be avoided for at least 48 hours prior.

Aftercare Guidelines (as per KPA Workbook):

  • Rest: A minimum of 24 hours is recommended. Emotional processing may continue.

  • Hydration: Plenty of water should be consumed, and electrolytes included. Food should be eaten, even if only fruit.

  • Nutrition: Light, nourishing meals such as soups, fruits, and vegetables are recommended. Heavy, processed, or sugary foods should be avoided for 48 hours.

  • Emotional Care: Journaling, meditation, or nature walks may help with processing emotions.

  • Avoidance: Alcohol and recreational drugs, including cannabis, should be avoided for 5 days.

  • Gates: Gates should not be touched or have any creams applied; they should be left to heal naturally.

  • Wellbeing Check: If dizziness or weakness occurs after the session, eating and resting are recommended. If symptoms worsen or become concerning, the practitioner should be contacted.

By proceeding with treatment, it is acknowledged that all relevant medical history has been disclosed using the online 'Health Declaration Form', potential physical and emotional effects are understood, and the practitioner and KPA are released from liability. Full responsibility for participation is accepted.
